WHAT DOES ISO IMAGE NOISE LOOK LIKE?

In my workshops people ask me what image noise looks like. With this test you will be able to see what image noise looks like at different ISO settings. The higher the ISO the more image noise you will see but there are some other factors as well. Image sensor size makes a difference.

Different Size Sensors: You will get less image noise at the same ISO setting on a digital camera like a Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera with a larger image sensor than a Point-&-Shoot camera or cell phone with a smaller image sensor. How old your digital camera is will also make a difference. In the last few years the technology of image sensors has gotten better and there is less image noise with newer cameras than older ones.

Different Camera Models & Manufacturers: There are also differences between one camera manufacturer and another as well as differences between camera models. You want to see what image noise looks like with your camera and the image sensor in it that captures your photographs electronically. If you have different cameras you should do this test with each of them.

Your Camera's Image Sensor: There are also differences between one camera manufacturer and another as well as differences between camera models. You want to see what image noise looks like with your camera and the image sensor in it that captures your photographs electronically. If you have different cameras you should do this test with each of them.

Grainy or Noisy: It doesn't matter what image noise looks like, it matters what image noise looks like on your digital camera and what you think of it. I used to love the grainy photos taken with film at night of street scenes that I saw in photography magazines. Photo software now lets you add grain to photos.

What do You Think?: Image noise doesn't bother me and I can reduce it with photo software. Everyone is different so you need to see what image noise looks like on your digital camera at different ISO settings and how you feel about it. This ISO test is quick and easy and helps you do that. Enjoy.
